Disposable Urinary Sediment Test Tube

    Disposable urinary sediment test tubes are used to examine urine samples for cells, casts, crystals, and microorganisms. The process for preparing a urine sediment sample is as follows:

• Mix the sample: Gently invert the container to mix the urine sample.
• Transfer to a centrifuge tube: Use a disposable plastic pipette to transfer the urine to a centrifuge tube.
• Centrifuge: Place the tube in a centrifuge and spin for a set amount of time.
• Remove the supernatant: Use a pipette or decant to remove the clear fluid at the top of the sample.
• Add a stain: Add a drop of stain to the tube using a pipette.
• Resuspend the sediment: Gently swirl or flick the tube to resuspend the sediment in the remaining supernatant.
• Transfer to a microscope slide: Use a pipette to transfer one drop of the reconstituted sediment to a microscope slide.
• Cover with a coverslip: Place a coverslip over the sample.

    The urine sediment is then examined under a microscope to identify the various components.
