Various Situations And Countermeasures During Clinical Blood Collection

1. If hematoma occurs, the needle tip of the venipuncture needle is not completely inserted into the vein/the needle tip penetrates the vein/excessive exploration of the vein causes the puncture hole to expand/the tourniquet is too close to the venipuncture site.

Countermeasures: loosen the tourniquet and pull out the venous blood collection needle, press hard on the swollen area (or raise the affected arm). Comfort the patient, replace the part and re-puncture

2. The blood sampling speed is slow or the blood stops flowing halfway through the blood sampling

Patients with excessively high blood viscosity chose small-sized blood collection needles.

Countermeasures: Choose the appropriate blood collection needle according to the patient's physical condition.

The vein may collapse.

Countermeasures: Pull out the tube plug puncture needle, wait a few seconds for the vein to refill, replace the blood collection tube and continue blood collection.

During venipuncture, the venipuncture needle may puncture the vein.

Countermeasures: If hematoma occurs, repeat venipuncture at different locations.

Before blood collection, the tourniquet was too loose or not tied.

Countermeasures: Tighten the tourniquet to compress the blood vessels.

The main vein was not selected during puncture.

Countermeasures: When collecting multiple tubes, the main vein must be selected first for puncture.

System limitations: blood collection tubes with a small blood volume are slower than blood collection tubes with a large blood volume; blood collection needles with a smaller tip outer diameter are slower than larger blood collection needles.

Countermeasures: Choose appropriate blood collection needles and blood collection tubes.

3. The vacuum is too large (the blood collection volume exceeds the preset maximum of the blood collection tube)

During the blood collection process, the patient's posture changes (for example, collecting blood from the stepped vein while sitting).

Countermeasures: Instruct the blood collection personnel to adopt the correct blood collection position.

Increased blood collection due to increased venous pressure caused by the patient's nervousness.

Countermeasures: Do your best to comfort patients and guide them to relieve tension.
